PUBLIC RELEASE
Snow Plowing Operations During Winter Storms
Greene Township
During winter storm events, Greene Township Public Works crews operate continuously to maintain safe and passable roadways. The following information is provided to set expectations and to request residents’ cooperation.
Plowing Operations During the Storm
- While snow is actively falling, plow operators will plow in and out (both directions)on assigned routes to keep roads open.
- The average plow route requires approximately 2–3 hours to complete an in-and-out cycle.
- Because snowfall continues while trucks are on route, road conditions may change rapidly.
- Greene Township does not have a “bare roads” policy. During storms, some roads may remain snow covered for periods of time. Our goal during active snowfall is passability, not bare pavement.
After the Storm
- Once snowfall ends, crews will make multiple passes to widen roadways, clear intersections, and complete final cleanup. This process may take between 4-5 hours.
Important Resident Information
- Snow will be pushed back into driveways and yards during plowing. This is unavoidable.
- Greene Township does not replace, or repair mailboxes damaged by snow displacement from plowing.
- Do not park vehicles along Township roads or in cul-de-sacs. Park in driveways to allow plows adequate room to operate.
- If vehicles are blocking a street or cul-de-sac, Greene Township may not return to clear those roadways.
- Throwing or plowing snow onto the roadway is prohibited. This practice removes salt and anti-skid material, creates dangerous icy conditions, and is against the law.
Safety Reminders
- Do not follow snowplows closely. Maintain a safe distance so operators can see you and maneuver safely.
- Plow trucks frequently stop, back up, turn, and spread anti-skid material.
- Avoid traveling during the storm and immediately afterward whenever possible. Less traffic allows roads to be cleared more quickly and safely.
Thank you for helping Township crews maintain safer winter driving conditions for everyone.
