GREENE TOWNSHIP, Franklin County – Earlier this week, Greene Township was awarded $136,666 through the Commonwealth Financing Authority’s Statewide Local Share Account Program to install modern heating and air conditioning systems in the historic Corker Hill home.

“Corker Hill is an important part of our township’s history, and this funding will help us protect the property while preparing it for greater community use,” said Township Supervisor Shawn Corwell. “We sincerely thank Representative Rob Kauffman and Senator Doug Mastriano for supporting this project and recognizing the value of preserving this historic property for future generations.”

Corker Hill currently lacks air conditioning, and seasonal humidity has contributed to the deterioration of interior paint and flooring. The new systems will provide year-round climate control, improve energy efficiency, eliminate reliance on heating oil, and help protect the township’s previous investments in interior improvements to maintain the historical character of the building.

“Preserving historic properties requires thoughtful investments that protect their character while keeping them useful and accessible,” said Representative Rob Kauffman. “This funding will help Greene Township safeguard Corker Hill and transform the property into a welcoming space for the community.”

Once the improvements are completed, Greene Township intends to make Corker Hill available for community meetings, educational programs, small events, and other activities. The project will allow the Township to preserve an important historic asset, while adapting it to serve as a functional, year-round civic space.

The Statewide LSA program is funded through the PA Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. The Commonwealth Financing Authority oversees the distribution of gaming revenues to support projects of public interest within the Commonwealth. The program is highly competitive, and 3,224 applications were submitted this round totaling approximately $1.5 billion. Of those applications, 1,378 were awarded, totaling approximately $348 million.
