PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
Winter Storm Potential – Saturday Night, January 25 through Monday, January 26

There is the potential for significant snowfall beginning Saturday night, January 24, and continuing into Monday, January 26. Current forecasts indicate possible snowfall accumulations may be significant, depending on the track of the storm.

Following the storm, very cold temperatures are expected to persist throughout the week. These conditions may result in icy and frozen areas on untreated roadways, creating hazardous travel conditions.

Greene Township Public Works asks residents to refrain from parking vehicles along streets so snow removal operations can be completed safely and efficiently.

Greene Township Emergency Management encourages all residents to prepare in advance. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) recommends the following winter storm preparedness measures:

  • Test smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and install battery backups if available.
    • Battery-powered radio, flashlight, extra batteries, blankets, and warm clothing.
    • Use generators outdoors only and away from windows and doors.
    • Keep appliances turned off during outages to prevent damage when power is restored.
    • Avoid unnecessary travel during the storm.
    • Monitor weather forecasts and local alerts.
    • Check on elderly neighbors, children, and those with medical needs.
    • Bring pets indoors and ensure they are protected from the cold.
    • Dress in layers and limit time outdoors.

Emergency services may be experiencing high call volumes during the storm. Please call 911 only in the event of a true emergency.

Residents are encouraged to prepare now and prioritize safety throughout the storm and the days following.
